COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course is intended to equip the graduate school students with the necessary knowledge and understanding of the basic concepts, principles, types of research, research methods, statistical procedure and data analysis. It deals with the nature and characteristics of research and its scientific methodology to solve problems and enlighten the graduate students the systematic endeavor starting from the problem formulation through writing and presenting a research.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

COURSE TITLE: METHODS AND APPROACHES IN TESL

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course focuses on the varied methodologies and their component strategies, techniques and activities in teaching English as a second language. The course further deals with the presumptions/assumptions about the physical, mental and psychological conditions of learners and of the teaching learning atmosphere. The course also anchors the methodologies on the student-learner’s knowledge of the elements of both core dialects and the targeted English language.

COURSE TITLE: ADVANCED SPEECH IMPROVEMENT
COURSE CREDIT: 3 UNITS
COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course is designed to provide an opportunity for graduate school students to study and participate in advanced course of oral communication. It allows students to learn effective methods of communicating both their own ideas and those of others. The goals of the course are to emphasize the technical approach to oral communication, to develop an appreciation for listening and to foster a feeling of ease when presenting material to the group.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course is a study of creative writing from the points of views of the writer and of the reader of fiction (short story and novel), poetry and drama. It includes the cognitive preparation of the former and the affective and psychomotor reactions of the latter.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course is designed to introduce graduate school students to, or refresh their knowledge of, the major rules (descriptions) of English sentence structure and the punctuation practices that mark those structures. Further, students will examine some pedagogical approaches in teaching grammar as well as practice developing materials for teaching Grammar.

COURSE TITLE: CRITIQUE OF SELECTED WORLD LITERATURES
COURSE CREDIT: 3 UNITS
COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course presents a study of representative works of world literature from Antiquity, the Middle Ages, and the Renaissance. The course emphasizes the study and consideration of the literary, cultural, and human significance of selected great works of the Western and non-Western literary traditions. An important goal of the class is to promote an understanding of the works in their cultural/historical contexts and of the enduring human values which unite the different literary traditions.

COURSE TITLE: HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL DEVELOPMENT OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE
COURSE CREDIT: 3 UNITS
COURSE DESCRIPTION:


In this course, the students will look at the literary, historical, cultural, political and scientific underpinnings of the English language we use today. We will examine how our ancient past continues to inform the way we speak and write today, and as we begin to address language as an organic phenomenon, we will be able to see the nature of its unchanging change. The students shall explore the development of American English and study how and why it has become not only flexible and innovative, but also a repository of some of the usage of Elizabethan English in history, literature and political rhetoric. The students will read sections of works by Thomas Jefferson, Mark Twain, Frederick Douglas, and others, as we close our studies by evaluating how a small regional language could have become the primary language of world trade and global communication today.

COURSE TITLE: LITERARY CRITICISM
COURSE CREDIT: 3 UNITS
COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course is a study of the history and aims of literary criticism from Plato and Aristotle to the present, including oral and written criticism of literary works. It is the capstone course for English majors. Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: understand the history of literary criticism and theory from Greek antiquity to the present, critique and analyze literature using a variety of methodologies, demonstrate an understanding of key periods and trends in literary history, and respond to texts and ideas in writing that is concise and persuasive

COURSE TITLE: PHONEMIC ANALYSIS AND PHONOLOGICAL APPLICATION
COURSE CREDIT: 3 UNITS
COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course is the survey of the study of speech sounds and the development of sound systems. Topics include the production, perception, mental representation and acquisition of speech sounds. The course provides clinical cases to transcribe and analyze sound system.

This praxis course examines the new pedagogies being used in higher education teaching. This course is an integration of all aspects of instruction which are primarily designed for college instructors who are not education graduates. Its coverage includes college teaching methods, principles and techniques. An overview of the functions of colleges and universities as well as the code of Professional Ethics and the structures of Department of Education and Commission on Higher Education will also be discussed.

COURSE TITLE: DYNAMICS OF CHANGE AND LEADERSHIP IN THE WORKPLACE
COURSE CREDIT: 3 UNITS
COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course presents systems theory and how it is applied in understanding the changing environments of the workplace. Theoretical and practical issues of leadership systems are presented with a particular emphasis on work ethics and on issues related to diversity. Integrative processes are explored as a means of developing effective approaches to a variety of human systems and management systems. Broadly speaking, this course is about effective leadership, diversity, inclusion and advocacy. This will look at social/political and cultural considerations of leadership in education and at issues of power in variety of actions and institutions.
